EXHIBITION MANAGER
Denver, CO
Compensation: Compensation for candidates based in Colorado is $81,000-$100,000.
Meow Wolf creates immersive and interactive experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. This includes art installations, video and music production, and extended reality content.
Job Summary:
The Exhibition Manager will oversee the art and technology for a highly dynamic immersive arts exhibition. This role involves hands-on project planning, design, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, inspection, and installation. Working closely with and managing the art & technology departments as well as contractors to enhance and enrich the core experience seen by our guests as they explore and interact with our immersive arts exhibition. The Exhibition Manager functions at a high level of proficiency in a wide variety of disciplines such as stage technologies, electronics, immersive entertainment, theme park technical operations, art preservation, and design fabrication for museum grade multi-medium interactive art.
Job Responsibilities:
This role is charged with keeping the exhibition operational and coordinating with the exhibit- wide maintenance staff to repair and maintain all systems at the highest standard of quality.
The Exhibition Manager will assist in training staff (exhibit team members, managers, docents, etc.) to engage the guests in the exhibition’s technical installations experience. Ensuring the highest level of safety for the teams conducting their duties.
Exhibition Manager is also responsible for the implementation of the expanding goals of the exhibition, including engaging with the design, creative development, programming, systems engineering, mechanical integration, fabrication, and production of new interactive exhibit elements.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to solve complex problems using a variety of technical skills.
  • Ability to manage contractors and vendors to ensure quality and budget are maintained Conflict resolution skills, and ability to develop win/win solutions.
  • Ability to work with and manage teams that must collaborate on projects with a wide range of priorities, meeting production goals and ensuring clear communication between teams.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a core discipline such as Project Management, Construction Management, Theater Arts, Engineering, Architecture or a related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience related to fabrication, project management, technology, or design.
  • Experience managing multiple projects at once and prioritizing competing work streams.
  • Experience working with interactive show design software such as TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, Audio Systems, specifically Q-SYS & Networked Audio Protocols such as Dante, Lighting Systems; specifically ETC products, and other Visual Programming Environments.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering practices and low voltage electronics including micro controllers such as Teensy, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi .
  • Familiarity with PCBs, logic circuits, schematics, sensors/components, motor assemblies, actuators, prototyping, and layout.
  • Core understanding of supplemental programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Node Red, JavaScript; frameworks like NodeJS, Svelte/React; and protocols like OSC/TCP/UDP.
  • Experience with digital fabrication including laser cutting, 3d printing, vacuum forming, and CNC machining.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and design using modeling software such as Rhino, Fusion 360, Revit, Blender, or Sketchup.
  • Strong woodworking, metalworking, and assembly skills.
  • An understanding of physical art processes such as mixed media sculpting, concrete mix design, substrate attachments, adhesive usage, mold making/casting, and art restoration.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Project management certification.
  • An appreciation for the arts.
  • Prior work experience in a creative organization.
  • Prior work experience in a retail, museum, theme parks, recreation facility, or other public space.
  • Prior work experience within a related design oriented field such as architectural, mechanical engineering, industrial design, scenic design, or show AVL.
  • Familiarity with digital design suites and visualization software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, Miro, and Slides.
  • Experience with Project Management Organizational Structures and tools such as Asana.

Work Environment:
This job primarily operates in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/or enclosed spaces.
Physical Demands:
  • Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Positioning or moving objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Use of maintenance tools and cleaning equipment, includes use of cleaning agents and chemicals.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position, working a minimum of 40 hours a week. It requires a flexible schedule to accommodate times the exhibit is closed to the public. Occasional evening, overnight and weekend work are required as job duties demand.

This position does require supervisory responsibility.

No travel is required for this position.
