Framestore’s Immersive Division are a dedicated team within one of the world’s largest VFX studios – combining exciting IP and cutting-edge technologies to create never before seen experiences and deliver them to audiences around the world across a wide variety of immersive platforms.
Technical Artists, as part of our Immersive Division, are responsible for working alongside Developers and Artists in devising and implementing internal prototypes and delivering high-quality products and projects for both IP and brand clients across a range of mediums on cutting-edge hardware – including VR, AR, real-time animation, virtual production and other exciting platforms. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of both the art and technical side of Unreal Engine, with a problem-solving mindset.
We are currently looking for a Technical Artist to support on a project specific assignment that will run for approximately three to four months starting in January 2024.
Ideal candidates will be based locally in New York, but open to discussing a fully remote (must still be based in the United States and preferably on the East Coast) agreement for the right individual.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Real-time Supervisor, Lead Tech Artist or Lead Developer to design interactive experiences using (predominantly) Unreal
- Material Creation – Design complex materials in Unreal and instruct artists on best practices
- Lighting – Be well versed in the various lighting techniques in Unreal and instruct the artists in lighting best practices
- Procedural asset creation
- Optimization – Optimize content through profiling and enhancing performance with the help of diagnostic tools and instructing the artists on modeling and texturing best practices
- Collaborate with programmers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during R&D phases.
- A demonstrable level of technical knowledge combined with strong creative and visual instinct
- A nuanced eye for critical detail
- Experience working with Unreal Engine
- Experience with Unity is also useful
- Advance experience of Unreal’s Blueprints system
- Advanced experience with Maya and or Houdini
- Experience with VR/AR authoring in Unreal
- Shader programming experience
- Able to solve problems as they arise and remain calm in high-pressure situations
- Positive attitude towards learning and sharing
Desired Skills:
- Scripting skills with MEL, Python, C#, Javascript and C++
- Real World Digital Twin Experience
- Experience with camera and film terminology
- Deadline oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with brand and high profile IP
- Pipeline Experience
New York City Employees Pay Range:
$400 – $600 per day
The posted range describes the minimum to maximum range for this job description in the state of New York. The range is posted in accordance with the New York City Pay Transparency Bill. The range for this same position may be lower or higher in markets outside of New York City. Pay is dependent on the applicant’s relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
