Simulation Technical Artist and 3D Modeler

Job Description:

The Simulation Technical Artist and 3D Modeler will work onsite in a fast paced, dynamic environment reporting to the Sr. Manager of Engineering and Product Management to execute our operational projects effectively and efficiently. Our products and services improve the safety of companies and people around the world and must be of the highest quality. The ideal Technical Artist has a strong background in creating 3D and 2D models with high quality. We seek a quick learner who can work independently with little supervision. It is essential that this Graphic Artist be professional and is approachable.

Essential Functions:

Meet with Engineering and Design teams to gather and understand simulation project requirements. Participate in prototype reviews, seek out clarifications, reference logic and flow documents, maintain project tracking updates as needed.

  • Researches and captures source material for use in building realist visual models from scratch or modifying existing models.
  • Produces visual models that maintain a visual look and style that is consistent with all other 3D artwork.
  • Creates 2D artwork included interactive virtual consoles, switches, buttons, and gauges from source images provided.
  • Creates 2D artwork included interactive virtual consoles, switches, buttons, and gauges from source images provided.
  • Produces 2D artwork that maintains a visual look and style that is consistent with all other 2D artwork.
  • Communicates with Engineering and/or customers to coordinate the creation of custom and generic artwork based on their desires and contract requirements.
  • Organizes and compiles installation files for use by customers.
  • Creates software installation packages containing artwork and tests them thoroughly for quality and functionality.
  • Troubleshoots, identifies, reports, and\or corrects problems with artwork.
  • Provides technical support for graphic artist team
  • Assists engineering department with daily tasks, including preparation of simulators for product demos, assisting with demos, inventory and any other tasks assigned.
  • Maintain Corporate issued assets and conduct routine inventory.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Visual Effects, Digital Arts, or related degree + 2 years’ experience. Graduate degree or equivalent with 0-2 years experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 yeas of prior related experience.
  • Experience in low-polygon modeling, real time graphics engines, 3DS Max and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Professional experience in each of the following
    • Using 3DSMax or Maya for 3D asset creation and refinement
    • Working with Unreal Engine and Unreal Blueprints
    • Managing art assets and pipelines
    • Optimizing exterior/interior lighting and shading within a variety of environments;
    • Resolving complex issues, helping other artists resolve technical hurdles
  • Using art software packages including Photoshop


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with Niagra, Substance Painter, Substance Designer
  • Ability to work independently with little-to-no supervision, and working in a small team
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
