Design Communications, Ltd. is building and expanding a Creative Technology team that integrates AV and IT solutions into our business of delivering turn-key architectural specialties, multimedia experiences, technological artwork and digital signage to a wide variety of clients. The AV Design Engineer is a technology specialist with in-depth knowledge and experience conceptualizing, designing and specifying AV systems that will deliver specific features and functions based on a project’s requirements and budget.

The ideal candidate will excel at understanding preliminary renderings and narratives and translating these conceptual references into detailed technical documents for assembly, installation, and integration for into a wide variety of custom projects ranging from simple digital signs to complex interactive multimedia installations. This is a heavy AutoCAD drafting position.

The AV Design Engineer will:

• Work within a project team of managers, mechanical & structural engineers, fabricators and installers to conceptualize, design and incorporate AV systems required to achieve the vision of our clients
• Design, select and specify hardware, cabling, and software for systems such as:
• Media players, video processors, video distribution systems
• Network infrastructure: copper and fiber-optic
• Computer systems, graphics cards, audio cards, network cards
• Show control systems: Crestron, Extron, Medialon
• KVM systems, multi-viewers, video matrices
• Lighting control systems and control distribution (DMX, sACN, ArtNet, KiNet)
• Interactive systems: cameras, sensors, touch interfaces
• Projection mapping systems: projectors, lenses
• LED displays, LCD displays, video walls
• Content Management Systems
• Create highly detailed AutoCAD drawings for use by our Fabrication and Installation teams
• Design and specify power & data requirements for AV systems
• Create detailed system diagrams and cabling line drawings for AV systems
• Consult on AV system requirements and costs estimates with project developers and estimators
• Support and perform the commissioning process on site in coordination with the install team

Long term Goals:

• Expand your skills: complete training, education and certification programs
• Build, grow and lead an AV Design team at DCL
• Develop and implement design processes and AV drawing standards
• Develop and implement technical training programs

If the following describes you, we want to hear from you!

• Experienced in designing AV systems
• Proficient in AutoCAD or similar drafting program
• Strong technical background in AV systems, cabling and hardware
• Experience creating detailed AV drawings diagrams and sketches
• Experience working within a project team throughout the construction process: design, engineering, construction, commissioning
• Ability to analyze and work from preliminary renderings and narratives
• Attention to detail and a penitent for precision and thoroughness
• Self-motivated and able to anticipate the needs of the team without daily instruction
• Excellent math, verbal, and written communication skills, coupled with creativity in problem-solving
• Maintain a positive attitude and take ownership of your role and responsibilities

Bonus if you have:

• CTS-D and/or CTS-I certifications
• Detailed network and IT systems experience and familiarity
• Certifications in either Crestron, Extron, AMX, etc.
• Cisco programing experience or certifications
• Experience estimating and budgeting AV system
