Audio Visual Technical Project Manager

As an Audio Visual Technical Project Manager at The Werd Company, you’ll be at the center of the action with The Werd Company’s dynamic and growing Audiovisual team in Austin, TX. You will help manage many aspects of event-based AV from establishing initial designs, providing detailed gear lists, to helping with event logistics. The Technical Project Manager thrives in a rapidly evolving environment and is exceptionally flexible, able to carry out a broad scope of responsibilities.

What you’ll do:
  • Work alongside Project Managers to oversee all phases of events from planning to execution.
  • Design AV systems to serve everything from concerts and galas to live streams and activations.
  • Build quotes using existing software.
  • Maintain quality and consistent work across platforms.
  • Manage calendar priorities based on event cycle and current projects.
  • Participate in client discovery (walkthroughs or meetings) to gather information integral to planning an event’s audiovisual systems.
  • Prepare detailed pick lists of the components necessary to connect and control systems.
  • Evaluate a client’s needs and priorities, and design efficient, flexible systems that ensure an event is executed according to predetermined timelines, within scope and budget.
  • Create, modify and review technical drawings including signal flow charts, site maps, and other relevant technical plots to prepare the team for success.
  • Maintain fixed office hours plus occasional site visits.
  • Schedule break-out sessions with relevant personnel depending on the project’s needs.
  • Attend regular meetings with Project Managers, Crew Chief(s), and other relevant personnel to help determine and document an event’s labor and logistical needs.
  • Learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Personality and Skill Requirements:
  • 3-5 years experience in event-based AV as a PM, Lead Tech, or Crew Chief.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, solve problems and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage projects and use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines.
  • Proactively anticipates problems and actively prevents them.
  • Intimate working knowledge of how AV systems function and interact with each other.
  • Certifications pertaining to audio, lighting, video, and/or rigging are preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to offer suggestions and improvements to processes and work effectively across a range of personalities.
  • The ability to focus on details while keeping the larger picture in mind.
  • Must have a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor with excellent communication skills.
  • Very strong technical competency, specifically with the Google Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Asana® or other project management tools is an added benefit.
  • Has an openness to learn new technologies.
  • Has an “above and beyond” mindset.
  • Must be persistent in finding solutions until all options are exhausted.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Having a strong existing network of professional colleagues is a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Job Type and Compensation:
  • Full time: Monday – Friday
  • Exempt, $38K – $45K per year (rate based on experience and skill level)
