Designer / Technical Designer

Our design studio is seeking experienced Technical Designers, Industrial Designers, and Multi-disciplinary Designers located in Toronto.

What we do:

We build film and television sets, museums, science centers, luxury sky resorts, public art installations, pop-up shops, events displays, live stage productions. These projects include interactive displays, games and mechanically operated parts which require a skilled team of designers to create, test and prove sustainability and longevity in the market place.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To review conceptual designs and inform the build process through sketches, detailing and CAD drawings
  • Assist in the quoting process with estimating materials based on designs
  • Assist in developing prototypes as needed with various materials and methodologies
  • Work with the fabrication team to trouble shoot, improve and finalize products.
  • Produce detailed shop drawings for fabricators including CNC machining for production purposes
  • Assisting in the sampling process and selection of finishes
  • Continually learning about materials and alternate build methodologies
  • Graphic design experience an asset

This Position Requires:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and goal-oriented environment with very tight timelines
  • The ability to adapt quickly to new building methodologies
  • An excellent understanding of shop drawings, machining & assembly methods.
  • Should have familiarity with the CNC process, training can be provided to successful candidates.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment but also independently as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience in a related field of design
  • Industry experience in: Museums / Science Centres / TV and Film/ Exhibitions/ Displays / Furniture
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD. Understanding of other programs such as Rhino, Revit, Inventor, MS excel and MS Word an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Experience:

  • design: 1 year (preferred)
  • Custom Build: 1 year (preferred)
