Dome Tech Operator / Media Server Technician — Contract
The Domes San Jose is looking for a local contract tech operator to support our immersive dome venue in downtown San Jose.
This role is for someone who is comfortable operating projection mapping / media server environments, running immersive visuals, troubleshooting playback issues, and supporting live venue operations.
Our current technical setup includes dome projection, media server operation, and immersive visual content. The ideal person does not need to already know our exact system, but should be confident learning and operating similar tools quickly.
What you’ll do
- Operate the dome projection / media system during events
- Support media playback and visual content during live programming
- Monitor the system before and during events to make sure visuals are running correctly
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues with playback, mapping, signal flow, and content
- Work with the remote/lead technical team to learn the existing setup
- Follow operating checklists for startup, show run, shutdown, and issue escalation
- Help document simple operating steps for future local tech support
- Communicate clearly with onsite operations team if there are any issues
- Be available onsite in San Jose for event days and technical handoff/training
Helpful experience
We are looking for someone with experience in one or more of the following:
- Projection mapping
- Media server operation
- VJ / live visual performance
- Immersive installations
- Live events / AV tech
- Dome or multi-projector environments
- Video playback systems
- Signal flow / basic troubleshooting
Software / tools
Experience with any of the following is helpful:
- Resolume
- TouchDesigner
- Screenberry
- MadMapper
- QLab
- disguise
- Watchout
- Notch
- OBS / video routing tools
- General media server or live visual software
Screenberry experience is a plus, but not required. The system is already built; this role is mainly to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot.
