Interactive Technical Development Lead

Remuneration: Commensurate with experience (~annualized $50k)

Background 

The Crazy Canadian Electric Bus Tour is a project to engage Canadian young people, aged 10 to 25, with climate science and climate hope-through-action. You will be a key member of a small team working under the direction of Stacey Spiegel of  Parallel World Labs.  Parallel World Labs is a global leader in interactive, immersive exhibits for museums and other public spaces, as you will see on their website. The project is guided by the board of directors of Opt2Refuture and their advisors.

 

You will be able to apply your knowledge, your skills and your convictions to a creative project with the potential to change young lives and, thereby, the direction of climate action in Canada.  

 

The ultimate intended medium is an immersive digital experience, including meta-humans and interactive climate simulations, contained within a Canadian-built electric bus that tours this country from coast to coast to coast.

Project

Interested in developing a socially responsible climate based creative project that will go nationwide- a chance to develop and hone your gaming, simulation and software programing skills? This opportunity will support your development and have you exploring innovative tools and techniques of immersive experience design.  You will work in a team under the guidance of Stacey Spiegel at  Parallel World Labs, a global leader in innovative, interactive immersive experience design in the museum exhibit space.  Collaborations will include working with leading developers throughout this project to integrate existing and emerging AI technology.

 

Position Description:

This is an opportunity to be part of a team at Opt2Refuture responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining innovative digital solutions that support the organization’s projects and initiatives. In collaboration with other team members, you will design and build the software framework for the immersive experience at the core of the Crazy Canadian Electric Bus Tour, a bold and groundbreaking initiative that will engage youth and communities across Canada.

 

 

Job Functions:

Work collaboratively with Project Leadership at Parallel World Labs and Opt2Refuture  as well as other team members, stakeholders, content experts  to  refine the project vision and successfully (on time, on budget, meeting functional requirements) implement the digital immersive prototype and concept design for the Crazy Canadian Electric Bus Tour.

 

Role expectations:

You will:

  • Lead the development of the SW in support of the project, choose suitable tools and frameworks to achieve the project objectives
  • Work with 1-2 team-mates, O2R leadership, and leadership from PW Labs to develop a SW experience that showcases the desired content and vision for the experience
  • Meet with project leadership team remotely on weekly basis to set priorities, review progress
  • Demonstrate the software and watch how people interact with both the software, and the project installations more holistically
  • Help in all the ways you’d like to make the project a success

 

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with and interest in pursuing: 
    • Programming languages e.g. Python or Javascript
    • Integrating 2D and 3D Digital graphics and models 
    • Experience with interface design and applications 
    • Revision control, open-source project management
  • Understanding of digital development lifecycle and best practices
  • Knowledge of web development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Experience and interest in integrating AI tools wherever applicable 
  • Experience in game design and development
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.

Location: PWL / O2R are in the Owen Sound area; arrangements for virtual work can be made.
