Job Overview
Unusual Projects undertake a wide range of bespoke, creative projects predominately in the museums, heritage, science centre and arts sector. The position requires a minimum of 2 years experience within a similar area and market. Our Interactive Technicians need to be methodical and well organised with excellent attention to detail and expert knowledge of manufacturing techniques and materials. They must have high standards of quality, housekeeping, and health & safety, and must be capable of working alone or in a team.
Responsibilities
- Report to the Workshop Manager
- Work from drawings and 3D digital models provided by our design team,
- Fabricate bespoke parts from drawings using stock materials and a range of machine tools.
- Fabricate, test, and evaluate exhibit prototypes to solve problems and test robustness of designs.
- Assemble components into fully functional interactive exhibits.
- Provide guidance and technical advice to our designers.
- Undertake installation, maintenance and repair of interactive exhibits on site, which may require travel away from home.
- Comply with our H&S policy and systems
- Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards
Requirements
- Competency in a range of Engineering techniques such as; Milling, Turning, Metal Fabrication and welding.
- Experience with hand and Power tool.
- An understanding of Pneumatics, Electrics, Plumbing, Plastics, CNC machine operation would be beneficial.
- Ability to work accurately to detailed drawings and 3D digital models.
- The ability to solve problems and make decisions using your own initiative.
- To be driven by detail and quality.
- To be a team player with a positive attitude.
- The ability to work to programmes and deadlines
- To be able to undertake site work both in the UK and abroad.
- A full UK driving licence
Working Hours
- 40 hours per week, Flexible time around core hours of 09:00 – 16:00
- Breaks 10:30 & 15:00 Paid (15 mins)
- 12:30 Unpaid (30 mins)
Holiday
- Year One – 22 Days
- Year Two – 25 Days
- Year Four – 28 Days
Remuneration
- Pay Scale – Production 1 – 10 (£25,000 – £45,000)
- PDs £30 meal allowance per night when staying away from home, or returning late.
