Summary:
As a Lead Broadcast Systems Engineer at Cosm, you will be pivotal in creating and implementing broadcast workflows for Cosm’s live sports and entertainment distribution. Your high-end production systems and immersive technologies expertise will push production capabilities beyond current limits. Reporting to the VP of Broadcast Technology, you will collaborate within a dynamic team and contribute significantly to Cosm’s pursuit of becoming a worldwide leader in immersive entertainment.
The selected individual will become a core part of the video technology group, which is a key component of Cosm’s widespread teams situated across different regions around the globe. The optimal candidate will work out of our LA office, along with occasional travel related to validating proof of concepts, training engineers, and refining workflows for effective implementation in operations. The finalized workflows will play a pivotal role in many high-profile global events.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design of immersive production workflows, achieving resolutions of 8K and beyond.
- Research and pioneer advanced broadcast technologies impacting global product delivery.
- Implement innovative production workflows to enhance operational efficiency and remote production capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with production teams and other technical departments to effectively meet operational requirements for Cosm Immersive and its partners.
- Lead the expansion of production workflows and assist in training technical contractor teams for seamless workflow integration and operational execution.
- Proactively prevent disruptions in live programs, swiftly resolving technical issues or implementing alternative solutions to maintain uninterrupted operations.
- Travel (up to 15% of the time) to assist in testing new production workflows and ensuring smooth execution of some of the world’s largest sporting events.
- Engineers must display competence across a broad spectrum of technology and business contexts, serving as the organization’s most adaptable and deployable resources.
EXPERIENCE:
- Seven years of broadcast engineering for live event productions and/or an equivalent degree and relevant experience.
- Proficient knowledge of TouchDesigner and node-based workflows to contribute to current and future broadcast ideation and execution.
- Robust grasp of conventional video and audio signal flows, conversion, and routing.
- Knowledgeable about IP video and audio distribution such as ST-2110, JPEG XS, SRT, WebRTC, NDI, Dante, etc.
- Thorough understanding of end-to-end production processes and a solid grasp of live transmission operations.
- Strong knowledge of file-based delivery formats, workflows, and technologies.
- Basic familiarity with virtual reality capture techniques encompassing monoscopic and stereoscopic approaches, demonstrating a foundational understanding of their principles and applications.
- Proven skill in analyzing and resolving intricate technical issues, with the ability to function independently and autonomously within a team-oriented context.
- Previous involvement in a similar customer-facing technical support capacity
- Positive and enthusiastic demeanor, capable of responding diplomatically and empathetically while maintaining composure in high-pressure environments.
The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $135,000 – $155,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
