The opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Live Performance Technical team in a maternity cover post for 11 months at Wimbledon College of Arts (WCA), UAL. The role will empower you to bring to Wimbledon advanced knowledge and extensive professional experience as well as enthusiastic, reassuring and inclusive interpersonal skills indispensable to support our students’ journey. As Lead Specialist Technician you’ll be responsible for running the day-to-day operation of the live performance spaces in collaboration with the Technical Manager, providing technical expertise, guidance and advice in theatre/live performance production skills to colleagues and students alike. Technicians are an integral part of the realisation of students’ work: their knowledge and experience of industry not only enables students to realise their most professional standard of work here at WCA, but it also prepares them for a smooth transition into their working life. Your profile We’re seeking a versatile and experienced production manager with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Design or Performance or relevant subject area and/or significant experience in a similar technical role, either in industry or education or ideally both. It’s desirable for you to have experience in delivering technical workshops encompassing all aspects of the production process from inception through to realisation. Proficiency in live performance production planning and delivery is crucial. High level of knowledge and professional experience in at least one area of technical theatre/live performance is essential as is a good professional understanding of all the disciplines involved it. Also highly crucial is significant knowledge of health and safety regulations and experience in risk assessment method statement compiling and control measure implementation. A can-do attitude and willingness to upskill is essential. You should possess excellent creative abilities in interpreting students’ ideas and suggesting solutions for their realisation. Additionally, you should possess effective and adaptable communication skills, a good working knowledge of IT packages and the ability to manage technical resources efficiently. Your professional competence, guidance, and advice will play an instrumental role in supporting students with their projects. It will be vital for you to remain updated about digital technology, whilst introducing innovative ideas and workshops to enrich the overall student journey.
