On-Site Tech Repair and Maintenance Specalist

About Atlas9

Atlas9, a fictitious 90s movie theater, has been inexplicably transformed – where scenes from “forgotten films” of the 90s have materialized and come to life. Over 45k square feet set the scene for this immersive playground, where visitors can dive into dynamic installations, conspire with performers, and explore the interactive environment to unfold the mysterious narrative. Boasting three food and beverage concepts, a 240 seat movie theater style auditorium, two additional live performance spaces, a full retail shop, and of course a classic movie theater arcade, Atlas9 is the Midwest’s premiere narrative-driven immersive art experience.

Each visit offers a thrilling quest where unique movies have merged with reality, giving guests the lead role in this engaging adventure. Three narrative arcs are available to explore which means that no two trips will be alike. Tech wearables allow guests to interact with the environment in unique and unexpected ways while staff and performers can help direct the action. Atlas9 will be hosting events ranging from sing-a-longs to touring bands to wedding receptions to corporate retreats and team buildings.

Located next to the Legends area in KCK, Atlas9 will be near the new Margaritaville resort, KC Homefield Sports complex, Great Wolf Lodge, and Children’s Mercy Park.

The Role

We’re looking for an On-Site Tech & Facilities Specialist – a mix between a handyman, IT troubleshooter, and cinematic stage engineer. You’ll be the first responder when something breaks, flickers, or just feels “off.” Whether it’s a jammed door, a moody projector, or an interactive system that needs a reboot, you’ll be the hero that quietly saves the day and keeps the show running.

This is an on-the-ground, hands-on role during open hours – perfect for someone who thrives in creative chaos and loves solving problems that don’t come with an instruction manual.

What You’ll Do

  • Keep the experience running: Respond in real time to tech or facilities issues as they arise across the property.
  • Troubleshoot tech systems: Power-cycle, test, and document issues with custom-built interactives and control systems.
  • Fix things fast: Repair or stabilize props, benches, doors, and fixtures to maintain safety and immersion.
  • Collaborate with creative tech teams: Communicate recurring issues, suggest improvements, and help implement practical fixes.
  • Maintain readiness: Ensure tools, parts, and systems are always ready for the next unexpected surprise.
  • Document and improve: Keep light but detailed logs of incidents and fixes to help the team stay proactive instead of reactive.

You Might Be the Right Fit If You…

  • Can fix (or at least tinker with) almost anything – from hardware to hinges to HDMI cables.
  • Love variety – no two days look the same, and that’s exactly how you like it.
  • Feel at home in creative, slightly chaotic environments where things move fast.
  • Have experience in facilities, maintenance, IT, or live event tech (bonus if you’ve worked in a theme park, museum, or entertainment venue).
  • Are calm under pressure and find satisfaction in keeping things quietly perfect behind the scenes.

Perks

  • Work inside one of the most talked-about immersive experiences in the Midwest.
  • Be part of a passionate, collaborative team that mixes art, science, and storytelling.
  • Hands-on experience with cutting-edge interactive tech.
  • Access to creative spaces and off-hour experiences within Atlas9.
  • Benefits: medical and PTO for full time employees (working 30+ hours per week)

Education & Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in AV installation, service, or live event support.
  • Demonstrated experience in entertainment production, including lighting, sound engineering, and projection mapping.

To Apply:

Send your resume (or portfolio of “things you’ve fixed”) and a short note about your favorite repair or technical save to jobs@atlas9.com
