Production Manager-Touring Exhibitions

The Production Manager works closely with the creative team and is the center of production projects and works closely with the clients to ensure that the projects are realized within the budget and exceed all expectations. This individual should be highly organized and have the ability to resolve technical challenges at event settings. The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of production and materials necessary for specific build-out processes for touring exhibitions. Also, skills involving strong understanding of health and safety with a client facing approach and commercial awareness are also key. Exhibition experience is imperative for this role.

General Responsibilities:

· Provides oversight, supervision and management of exhibition touring department from a logistical, technical, and production perspective.

· Coordinates with Exhibition Booking and Touring, Contractors and Crew, Exhibit Designers, Technicians and others to for exhibition touring installation, deinstallation, logistics, and enhancements.

· Researches and selects production vendors, creative consultants and other 3rd party entities needed for the fabrication and creation of design concepts as needed.

· Directs contracted production services to fabricate structural, mechanical, electronic, audio- visual, multimedia and graphics components to specifications within the established budget and schedule.

· Builds project budgets, schedules, crew teams, and expense tracking processes to stay within or below contract budgets

· Provides input to Booking and Touring on productions costs and timing which impact contracting.

· Coordinates the delivery and installation of finished exhibitions and components.

· Provides recommendations and insights on approaches to enhance components or improve outdated methods.

· Serves as Production liaison with assigned project managers to deliver relevant and critical information to venues, clients, and partners.

· Produces status reports, inventory, descriptive narrations, updates and summaries as required.

· Maintains annual equipment inventory of exhibition elements

· Coordinates with Accounting team, Production Coordinator, and vendors on terms and on-time invoicing and payments

· Performs other duties for special production related projects as assigned.

·Domestic and International Travel required


· Organization, planning, time management, reporting skills, dependability, ability to be self-motivated and self-sufficient, diplomacy, critical analysis and ability to multi-task.

· 5-7+ years’ experience in touring exhibitions, concert production, themed entertainment, or related field.

· Strong organizational and positive professional communication skills, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines required both domestically and internationally.

· Proficient in MS Office products, drafting software programs including Vectorworks or other dwg. Files, and scheduling software applications (Gantt, etc.)

· Experience in technical operations of interactive exhibits, stage and theatre and/or themed entertainment attractions

· Extensive experience in carpentry, electrical, electronics, materials, hardware and the physical aspects of building traveling exhibitions and/or attractions with a specialty in AV, Lighting, Graphic Design and/or Scenic fabrication.

· Must work well within a team environment which combines entertainment production, fine-arts collection, and educational components.
