Why is this role important?
CIHI is undergoing a major transformation of its digital services and, as a result, has multiple projects with exciting UX design opportunities.

Under the direction of the Team Lead, User Experience, the Senior UX Designer is responsible for creating digital design solutions that meet user needs as well as CIHI’s business and technical requirements. The Senior UX Designer is responsible for championing a consistent user experience across CIHI’s digital eco-system and ensuring the timely delivery of solutions that meet quality expectations and comply with enterprise standards and processes.

What you’ll do
1. Create various design solutions that meet end user needs as well as CIHI’s business and technical requirements. Design process can include developing artefacts such as user flows, storyboards, content maps, sitemaps, wireframes, low and high -fidelity mock-ups, prototypes, responsive layouts, user interface kits and detailed design specifications.

2. Follow a user-centred design approach that relies on rapid testing and design iteration to help achieve product success. Produces designs that support CIHI’s digital strategy and design principles and ensures design solutions meet enterprise standards (e.g., Design System, WCAG 2.0).

3. Work as part of a core, multi-disciplinary project team to execute project plans and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Builds and maintains strong working relationships with core team members and liaises with extended teams or subject matter experts, as needed. Actively participates in meetings to provide UX insights and report on progress.

4. Plans, conducts and facilitates design ideation sessions with cross-functional teams. Documents outputs and translates them into viable design solutions.

5. Collaborates with the UX researcher to review and validate concepts and designs with key internal and external stakeholders.

6. Effectively communicates and presents designs to key stakeholders (e.g. Product Managers, BSAs, developers, business teams, digital teams, senior management) throughout the UX process.

7. Develops and maintains a strong understanding of CIHI standards, processes, tools and technology, while staying up-to-date with new and emerging UX approaches, trends, best practices, techniques and solutions.

8. Participates in the development and application of the UX practice and toolset.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Undergraduate degree in Design, Interactive Media, Information Technology) or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education

and experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience including a strong portfolio that demonstrates successes in interaction/UX design, responsive and adaptive designs for different platforms, as well as content and information design.
  • Independent, self-starter, with strong organizational and project management skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively, with minimal supervision, as part of a cross-functional team, delivering iterative design in an agile product development process.
  • Ability to work efficiently while producing quality outputs.
  • Strong understanding of UX best practices, methodologies, standard design patterns, and WCAG 2.0 standards.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and workshop facilitation skills including the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and at varying levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with UX research and testing methods is an asset.
  • Experience using prototyping tools as such Axure, Adobe XD, and Adobe’s Creative Suite.
  • Experience designing interactive data visualizations is an asset as is any familiarity with D3.js, Chart.js, Google Charts, Qlik, Microstrategy or Tableau.
  • Basic understanding of Drupal CMS and front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, Bootstrap framework, JavaScript, JQuery, REACT, and Angular JS.
  • Ability to meet occasional travel requirements.
  • Fluency in both official languages is an asset.

Basic Qualifications
