Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Hobby Center Director to re-vamp and revitalize our Art and STEM program. This role will have the opportunity to shape a brand-new vision for the Hobby Center by more fully integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts into our creative arts center with hands-on learning experiences that captivate our curious, capable, and enthusiastic campers.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Revitalization:
- Lead the re-vamping of the Hobby Center program by integrating art and STEM concepts into creative and hands-on activities.
- Design age-appropriate projects and initiatives that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, skill-building and problem-solving.
- Develop a flexible and inclusive curriculum that meets the diverse interests and abilities of campers ages 7-16, ensuring each activity is both fun and educational.
- Introduce innovative technologies, tools, and resources to enhance camper experiences, from robotics to digital arts.
- Collaborate with the camp’s leadership team to align the program with the overall camp philosophy and values.
Leadership and Staff Training:
- Hire, train, and supervise a team of passionate and energetic counselors who will assist with the execution of Hobby Center activities.
- Provide ongoing guidance and support to counselors, ensuring high-quality instruction and creating a positive and fun learning environment.
- Foster an atmosphere of teamwork, inclusivity, and safety within the Hobby Center and beyond.
- Lead by example, demonstrating enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to camper success.
Camper Engagement:
- Work directly with campers to facilitate activities that inspire hands-on learning and creativity.
- Adapt activities to ensure they are accessible and engaging for campers of all skill levels and backgrounds.
- Promote collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills through group projects and individual tasks.
- Encourage campers to explore their interests and passions, and provide personalized guidance when needed.
Resource Management and Budgeting:
- Order and manage the Hobby Center’s supplies and resources, ensuring the availability of necessary materials for activities.
- Stay within budget while sourcing new materials and technologies that can enhance the program.
- Work with the camp’s administrative team to assess the program’s needs and ensure efficient operations.
Program Evaluation and Improvement:
- Regularly assess and evaluate the success of the program through camper and staff feedback.
- Make recommendations for continuous improvement, adjusting activities to meet the evolving needs and interests of campers.
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, camper participation, and feedback.
- Engage with parents and guardians to communicate camp policies, programs, and camper progress.
- Collaborate with other leaders to strategize on program improvements and innovations.
- Foster an inclusive community that promotes respect, teamwork, and personal growth among campers.
- Evaluate camp programs regularly to ensure they meet educational standards and camper needs.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong background in Art Education with STEM experience.
- Proven experience in program development, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- Ability to engage and inspire children of various ages and abilities.
- Creative thinker with a passion for designing innovative, experiential, hands-on learning experiences.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; able to manage and motivate a team of staff members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Prior experience working in a camp, youth program, or similar setting preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., education, art, or technology) preferred.
