The School of Creative Industries is seeking a qualified individual to support the animation and design cluster of programs, in the areas of Animation, Motion Graphics, Game-Design, Game-Art, Esports and Virtual Reality with experience in Adobe CC (PC/Mac), Toon Boom, Unity, Unreal, Maya, Blender, and Z-brush, as well as knowledge of wire frame, production pipelines and industry protocols. Working with faculty, the incumbent will assist students in the classroom and remotely with the use of equipment, software, and related industry processes.

The Technologist, Creative Industries is expected to actively stay on top of industry trends and technology changes and will assist in implementing change to the design, layout, and functionality of school facilities to meet program requirements and advancements. The incumbent also works with faculty and students to create supporting course content materials for programs, including audio and video components

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus five days/week.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates software, equipment and facility use
  • Oversees the practical testing thereof, supporting students through explanation of the practical application of theory, both in-class and outside of class hours, according to the prescribed skills and objectives of the program curriculum, as introduced to the students by faculty
  • Responsible for ensuring technology, equipment and materials across all School of Creative Industries studios, loans office, and labs are properly maintained and logged, carrying out updates, repair, and inventories as required
  • Participates in implementing change to the design, layout, and functionality of School facilities to meet program requirements, as directed by the manager or chair
  • Works with the tech team, faculty and/or students to prepare, create, or modify supporting course content materials for programs, including audio and video components
  • Supports all faculty and students with the pull, organization, and sign-out of equipment and materials for production and teaching needs
  • Assists in delivering and set-up of equipment to classrooms and studios, as needed
  • Actively researches and tests new technology, software and processes related to School of Creative Industries programs, and when required cross train other team members
  • Participates in production projects and supports large and small college-wide events undertaken by the School of Creative Industries, as needed
  • Participates in other projects/duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Two-year Diploma/Degree in Animation, Creative Arts, Fine/Applied Arts, Media, or Design
  • Five years of practical experience with related disciplines within Creative Industries at an advanced level including advanced working knowledge of technology, software, and processes with three years of industry experience in Animation, Game or Motion Graphics
  • Experience with the following software/applications is preferred: Adobe CC, Unity, Unreal, Maya, Blender, and Z-brush, as well as knowledge of production pipelines and industry protocols
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Confident, self-motivated, and creative
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team
  • Organized with strong time management and planning skills
  • Able to analyze issues and problem solve
  • Current in industry standards, processes, equipment, and software technologies
  • Able to provide tech support to students at all skill levels
