Freelance TouchDesigner Developer Needed – Generative Mosaic Artwork (with artist, Max Patte)

Hi all,

I’m looking for an experienced TouchDesigner developer to help build a generative mosaic system for a digital artwork. This project is developed in collaboration with the artist Max Patte, and I’m supporting the technical side. The idea is to create a digital extension of his work—subtle, time-based, and visually meditative.

What We’re Building

• Custom image input: Load any image into the system.
• Dual resolution controls:
  • One for the final output resolution (e.g. screen or render size).
  • One for the tile resolution, determining mosaic granularity.
• Per-tile animation:
  • Each tile shifts independently and randomly.
  • Tiles go through a brightness wave: bright to dark to hue shift to dark to bright.
  • Only after all tiles have shifted once does the system progress the global hue slightly.
  • Over time (roughly one week, user-adjustable), the full piece cycles through 360° of hue.
• Visual integrity: The image remains clearly recognizable throughout.
• Gradient overlays: Each tile will include a soft gradient for added depth.
• Color correction: Basic controls like brightness, contrast, and saturation per tile or globally.

Aesthetic Context

The system should feel ambient, organic, and always alive. It’s meant to be contemplative and subtle—true to Max Patte’s physical work. Think of it as a slow, continuous transformation, where time is embedded in the shifting image.

Technical Requirements

• Strong experience with TouchDesigner, especially TOP workflows and time-based logic.
• Good understanding of color spaces, hue cycling, and modulation.
• Clean project structure and labeling.
• Bonus: a control panel for adjusting key parameters (cycle time, tile size, gradient intensity, etc.).

Project Scope

This is a freelance/contract project. You’ll be working directly with me (Tim @ Framemaker.tv) to deliver a clean, modular .toe file for use in a gallery or screen-based installation.

There is no hard deadline — this can be tackled in a relaxed, on-and-off way. No rush; quality comes first.
